Located at the bottom of the Aiguebelle valley (Aigo-Bello: The beautiful water) and dominated by the peaks of Luzet, Montbrand is composed of 7 hamlets, quite distant from each other.
The church of the village is located on a rocky peak with a defensive vocation, the place is called "La Vière" and seems to be the first place of historical settlement of the inhabitants of Montbrand. Inside, the confessional built into the wall makes it special.
Downstream from the Aiguebelle river are still some lavender fields, in the twentieth century the valley was a high place of lavender production for perfumery with a dozen distillery. Today only one persists, that of the Corréard family in La Faurie.
Many beekeepers were also settled, taking advantage of this flora.
The hamlet of Forest Bayles ("landmarks of shepherds"), also recalls that formerly the place was grazed and where sheep were raised.
Even today, important herds live there in summer.
Finally the hamlet of Creyers, with typical architecture, houses built in the mountain slopes, at the top of a succession of dry stone walls.
This hamlet is indicative of an interesting period in the history of religions, as a Catholic chapel and a Protestant church coexist side by side.
Some remains of thatched roofs are still visible.
