The inhabitants of Chabestan are called the Chabestanais and Chabestanaise.
The village, located on the left bank of Buëch, is composed of several hamlets including that of Champcrose, steeped in history. On these lands, archaeological excavations have uncovered numerous burial mounds. His name, taken from the Latin Caput Stagni, is older than the Middle Ages.
The town has two castles (one of which is occupied by the Acconage holiday colony of the port of Marseille). The church, dating from 1715 is dedicated to St. Bartholomew.
